Public City Lecture

The Public City Lecture provides a perspective on the important connection between the urban academy and the public civic sphere. The lecture is intended to reflect on the need for, and experience of, scholars who offer theoretical and applied insights to the problems facing cities through public roles as advisors, commentators, advocates and provocateurs. The Public City Lecture remembers the scholarship and advocacy of the late Dr Paul Mees AO who worked tirelessly to communicate urban critique and analysis to civic and public audiences, including via the SOAC conference.

The 2017 Public City Lecture will be delivered by Associate Professor Libby Porter, Vice Chancellor’s Principal Research Fellow at the Centre for Urban Research, RMIT University. The title of the 2017 Lecture will be:

From an urban country to urban Country: Confronting the cult of denial in Australian cities

The 2017 Public City Lecture has been generously supported by the Division of Education, Arts and Social Sciences at the University of South Australia.
